Team Development

Helping teams work better together

Putting a group of people together doesn’t automatically make them a team.

Real teams need trust, communication, shared purpose and a willingness to work through the inevitable differences that come with having lots of different people in the room.

Sometimes a team is new. Sometimes it’s grown quickly. Sometimes people have stopped talking properly to each other. And sometimes things are going perfectly well — but you know they could be even better.

That’s where team development can help.

What makes a team work?

There isn’t a magic formula, but strong teams tend to have a few things in common.

People understand what they’re there to achieve. They know what is expected of them. They feel able to speak up, challenge ideas and ask for help. They understand each other better and, importantly, know how to work through disagreements when they happen.

We can help teams explore:

No falling backwards into someone’s arms

Team development doesn’t have to mean awkward trust exercises, forced fun or building the tallest tower out of spaghetti.

Although, occasionally, a bit of silliness can be useful.

The activities we use have a purpose. They create opportunities for people to experience how they communicate, make decisions, solve problems and respond to pressure — and then step back and talk about what actually happened.

Because the useful bit isn’t the activity.

It’s the conversation afterwards.

From team building to team development

There’s a difference between having a nice afternoon together and actually becoming a stronger team.

Our sessions are designed around what your team needs. That might be a focused team workshop, a series of development sessions, a team away day or ongoing support.

We can also build on insights from team diagnostics, using tools such as MBTI or DiSC to explore how individual differences affect the way the team works together.

The aim is always to take the learning back into the real world.

For teams at all stages

Team development can be particularly useful when:

Let’s work out what your team needs

There isn’t a standard SALT team development day — because there isn’t a standard team.

We’ll start by understanding your people, your situation and what you’d like to achieve. Then we’ll build something that gives your team useful experiences, honest conversations and practical things they can take back to work.

Because the best team development isn’t just about having a good day together. It’s about working better together afterwards.

Every great solution starts with a conversation.

Let’s have that conversation…
