Equality and Diversity At Work

Not About Treading On Eggshells

We know we have a legal obligation to support our staff within the 9 protected characteristics (and to be honest why wouldn’t we?).

Age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation are all part of the Equality At Work Act 2010.

For some people it can feel like that ‘political correctness has gone mad’ or, as I have had people say to me before, ‘like treading on eggshells’.

We live in an ever evolving world and it can be difficult to keep in touch with latest thinking.

Sadly, those who chose not to engage with this subject run the risk of being subject of a grievance and or disciplinary action.

Understanding what the Equality Act means and what it actually relates to is often the start of the journey to acceptance.

We are ALL protected by it and it is important that nobody feels excluded, overlooked or treated differently.

If you feel your team is lacking in awareness and or understanding in this area please do get in touch.
