Leadership Lessons In Disguise
What happens when you take a group of ‘up for it’ managers and mix in a dash of leadership development, a splash of mud, and a whole lot of laughter? Let me tell you… you get a team-building experience like no other and one that they will remember forever.
Last week’s session was part of a 12month programme of sessions for developing mangers or ‘successors’ as we refer to them. Succession planning is vital in any business that was to be sustainable and finding creative and fun ways to do this is really satisfying.
The Muckier Side of Management
I don’t do cookie-cutter workshops I prefer a human-centred, results-focused approach to every session—whether it’s coaching new managers, resolving team tensions, or building confident communicators.
Think tractor racing, pig herding, and welly-wanging—all designed to spark laughter, friendly competition, and unexpected insights into how teams work under pressure
It was an early start for the team from GE Vernova but all was well when they arrived to bacon sarnies and hot coffee to get them warmed up for the day. The laughter soon followed and as you can see from the photograph everyone had a great time.
Why It Works
Taking time away from their normal working environment not only set the scene for a more informal approach to learning but breaks down barriers for us to do our best work.
Over the years I’ve used this venue for team sessions, it just one of several locations that makes learning fun, puts everyone on a ‘no so level’ playing field and makes the day memorable for all the right reasons.
My Favourite Quote Of The Day?
“Bl@@dy hell they’re fast!!!” was a comment made just after the sheep had been released from their pen.
Developing teams doesn’t need to be dull or boring. In fact the more creative the better.
If you’d like to explore ways to achieve results with your team in a way that makes them feel valued and appreciated then let’s talk.
